Laser Treatments

Facial/Leg veins & Rosacea

Spider veins (telangiectasia) are small (1mm diameter), superficial purple or red broken dilated capillaries often irregular in shape; similar to a spider’s web.

Telangiectasia may appear anywhere on the body, but are more commonly found on the face and legs. Reticular veins are the deeper, thicker (2-3mm diameter) darker veins found on face, thighs and lower legs. Reticular (feeder) veins are larger than spider veins and by eliminating reticular veins will in turn help to reduce spider veins.

Varicose veins are lumpy, swollen veins that protrude above the skin’s surface. Generally found on the legs, varicose veins are the result of faulty vein valves or weak vein walls. The veins in the legs have the toughest job of carrying blood back to the heart. They endure the most pressure; pressure that can overcome the strength of these one-way valves. The force of gravity, and the task of carrying the blood from the bottom of the body up to the heart make the legs the primary location for varicose and spider veins.

Rosacea is a condition involving the face that results in a ‘blush’ or redness and progresses from intermittent to consistent. It is associated with prominent blood vessels, open pores and skin eruption similar to acne. Symptoms usually commence between the ages of 30 to 50.

Treatment Explained

The laser energy is absorbed by the haemoglobin in the vein which then collapses and is eliminated by the body. When the laser light is absorbed, it is converted into heat causing the walls of the veins to collapse and blood flow to cease. The laser light achieves vein removal by destroying the vein but without causing damage to the surrounding skin.

Hair Reduction

The traditional ways of removing hair – shaving, plucking, depilatory creams and waxing – are time consuming and results are short lived. Electrolysis can permanently remove hair; it is extremely slow, painful and may cause scarring. It involves treating one hair at a time but is an option for white, blond and grey hair. Permanent laser hair reduction is a safe and effective way to reduce unwanted body and facial hair.

Treatment Explained

Laser light energy is absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicle while your hair is its anagen, or active phase of growth. The laser light energy is converted into heat, causing thermal damage to the follicle without harming the surrounding tissue. Hair re-growth is impeded in the damaged hair follicle.

Since hairs enter their growth cycle at different times, several treatments are necessary to disable all of the follicles in one area.

A comprehensive and informative consultation will be carried out prior to treatment.

Sun Damage & Pigmentation

Enhanced Skin Rejuvenation is a revolutionary skin treatment using multiple laser wavelengths to reduce pigmentation, and sun damage. It is most often performed on the face and neck, but the chest, hands, arms and legs can be treated also.

Treatment Explained

Lasers are effectively used for the treatment of pigmented lesions because they can selectively treat the lesion with minimal side effects to the surrounding skin. Laser pulses are converted into heat causing the pigmented lesions to darken and then flake off over the next few days.

A comprehensive and informative consultation will be carried out prior to treatment.

Venous Lake & Port Wine Stains

A port wine stain is a red or purple area caused by increased blood flow just beneath the skin’s surface. Tiny blood vessels under the skin can normally narrow (constrict) or widen (dilate) depending on temperature. In port wine stains a genetic abnormality causes the blood vessels to remain dilated resulting in a permanent localised blush. Most occur on the face but any area can be affected. It is a genetic abnormality.

A venous lake is a generally solitary, soft, compressible, dark blue mark commonly found on sun-exposed surfaces of the vermilion border of the lip, face and ears. Lesions generally occur among the elderly.

Treatment Explained

The laser specifically targets excess blood (haemoglobin) in the skin without damaging the surrounding tissue. The light energy is absorbed by the blood inside the vein, heating up the vessel wall, which collapses and then dissolves..
